Did you realise just how much your habits create your life? What we do over and over again affects what our world looks like. So what kind of life are your habits creating for you? Is it a life that you’re happy with? Or is there some part of your life that you really don’t like and wish would change but it never does?
So if you look at what kind of habits you have you might be surprised. How often do you complain or feel fed up during the day? It may be about traffic, your boss, co-workers, the queue in the shop, your job, your partner, friends, children, parents, money, health or even the weather. You may think that any complaints are perfectly reasonable and justified but whether that’s true or not, any time you experience feeling fed up, irritated, unhappy suggests you’re dissatisfied in some way and you’re creating that kind of energy and pattern.
What kind of food do you eat during the day? Is it food that’s nourishing for your body? Do you take time to eat it, enjoy it, digest it? Or is it food eaten quickly, chosen for convenience, eaten whilst doing something else?
What kind of things do you do during your day? Do you do them because you “have to” or “should”? How do you feel about what you’re doing? Quite often we’re disconnected from our body, spending a lot of time directed by our mind and thoughts and either we ignore any feelings or we’re operating on automatic pilot, in a kind of trance.
Yet the habits that we’ve developed and that we follow create our life. So it makes sense to look at what kind of life we have and ask whether it looks how we want. If it doesn’t then the first step would be to ask yourself what would you change? And why? What’s your underlying motivation and desire and what would your ideal life really look like?
Then to identify just one small change of habit that you can make right now. To make it something that you enjoy, that feels good to you and that you can do and keep doing. A small, tiny step, a slight tweak that you can repeat consistently every single day can lead to big changes. You will be able to observe the difference in your daily life as that small new habit takes effect and starts to build momentum. And from this you see the evidence that you really can be in charge of your life and make changes that you’re wanting.
